Vineet Nayar is the Chief Executive Officer of HCL Technologies Ltd., India’s leading global IT Services Company. He also serves on the board of the company as a whole time Director. A team of more than 50,000 professionals, HCL is spread across 18 countries with its current annual revenues of US $1.9 billion.
A radical thinker, a fearless leader, and an entrepreneur to the core, Vineet started his journey with HCL in 1985 after completing his engineering and management degree. After spending seven years of his career as engineer, product manager, sales & marketing head at HCL, Vineet founded HCL Comnet. It was one of HCL’s most innovative and successful businesses to provide IT infrastructure and networking services. The popular survey from “Business Today” conducted by Mercer and TNS has ranked HCL Comnet amongst the top 10 “Best Companies To Work For In India” for 3 years consecutively and he was acknowledged as one of the “India’s Hottest Young Achievers” by Business Today in 2002.
He became the President in April 2005 and later CEO in October 2007 of HCL Technologies and instituted several radical transformational programs across the organization. In just a short span of time the organization has become one of the fastest growing companies in the Indian IT landscape and Brown-Wilson Group for The Black Book of Outsourcing has adjudged HCL Technologies as the No. 1 infrastructure outsourcing vendor in the world in 2007.
His blunt refusal to treat the most essential ingredient of HCL, its people, as a resource, has brought about a complete shift in the organization. His mantra of “Employee First” and a strong belief in value-based leadership has been recognized globally as an example of Organizational Innovation. A story in Business Week states Employee First as “a new and radical management philosophy” that will catch on with the world sooner than later.
Fortune Magazine has articulated his leadership style as “The World’s Most Modern Management” and the London Business School calls him “the leader of organizational Innovation”. The Harvard Business School (HBS) has written a case study on the Transformation at HCL, based on his innovative and radical leadership. The case study is being taught in the Strategy and Leadership classes at HBS.
Under his leadership, HCL Technologies has made it to the fastest growing “Business Week Top 100 Tech companies” (2007). IDC recognizes Vineet as having “the most cohesive and articulate vision” in the IT services sector.
Described as forthright, focused, passionate, dynamic, & result-oriented, Vineet has infused HCL with his own brand of energetic leadership, vision and spirit over the years. With his focus on Blue Ocean strategy of conquering uncontested market spaces, he is poised to take HCL to new heights of success.
